Vegetable oils and fats are important natural ingredients for most food products. They are not only an important nutrient, but also essential for making tasty food as well as its appearance.  At Sime Darby Hudson and Knight we manufacture frying oils that are versatile in different frying settings and frying activities be it in fast food outlets, industrial frying of pre-fried frozen potato chips, commercial production of potato crisps and other fried food products.

In order to guarantee their applicability in a large number of food products our oils and fats go through a process of refining, and deodorizing, to remove any odours that could taint the customer’s finished product. Seed oils are then subjected to a winterizing process to remove any waxes which could cloud the oil if chilled. Oils that are destined for deep frying then have antioxidants and antifoaming agents added to them to enable them to handle the treatment that they will receive when heated to temperatures in excess of 180°C for hours on end in the customer’s fryers.

The quality of the fried products not only depends on the frying conditions or the raw materials, but also on the type of oil. The oil used for frying becomes part of the fried food, because the oil plays an important role to transfer the heat into the product to get a natural crispiness.  Our Crispa Gold Premium Sunflower oil for example, is well known for its extra-long frying life benefits and stable characteristics because it is triple refined and also contains an antioxidant and antifoaming agent, which are characteristics of a good frying oil.
